MATT “LEBO” LEBOVITS
As a youth Joe was very active and played all kinds of sports; baseball, football and wrestling. He found CrossFit after graduating college in 2009. CrossFit allowed him to do different things each day and with a small group of friends they slowly attracted other members of the local globo gym to join in. Each day the crew met in the gym and did the Workout of the Day (WOD) from the main site. Because of the disruptive nature some of the workouts had, they were forced to leave their gym and seek out other options. The group slowly disbanded and Joe began to focus more on the Olympic lifts. Over the next few years he educated himself more and more with strength training and olympic weightlifting techniques. With his passion for lifting and teaching others he began working out of his garage and training anyone who would see him while also training for competition. He was able to qualify for the American Open in 2015, however between opening a gym and trying to make ends meet he was unable to attend. He continues to hone his skills as a trainer and a lifter each day. There is always room for improvement.
Lebo was a very athletic child, he played numerous sports, including baseball, soccer, and wrestling. He went to college and graduated with a BS degree in Mathematics Education, quickly beginning a career in teaching. He started a wrestling team in 2002 at James Madison High School in Brooklyn, NY; this was the point he discovered his love of coaching. Matt loved to train the kids at school, but was starting his own family at home. It became troublesome to juggle both, so wrestling had to take a back seat.
Quickly, 9 years went by and with limited time to exercise his body-weight had skyrocketed. He and his wife, Teresa decided to try CrossFit and after only a year he was back in shape looking and feeling better than ever. CrossFit had changed his life for the better and now he can pass along the message to others!
