Go with the Flow and be a Champion

“After starting with CFDA, I was hitting PR after PR, but the first one that I was really working on for a while break past 100# strict press. For some reason, I had a hard time breaking that PR.”

Not everyday can be a banner day. Some days go really well, while others leave us feeling in the dumps. Today I want to highlight keeping an open mind and going with the flow. Enjoying the process and making progress!

Everyday at Dark Athletics, we look to improve ourselves little by little. Some days it may feel like we take 1 step forward and 3 steps back, but that really isn’t the case.

I have been known to get so down on myself that I self sabotage just because things didn’t go my way or I messed up a minor detail. It’s not always easy to fail at something, but in reality sometimes that is the only way to make progress.

This week I want to highlight one of our members that came to us after her gym for years shut down, Diana Rossi.

Diana gunning down the targets during the Dark Athletics Open!

Diana is an incredible athlete, she works very hard everyday and is a great asset to our community. Diana was going to a gym for years not too far from us and unfortunately had to make the switch when the gym shut down in November of 2021.

It’s not easy to switch gyms when you have been a part of a community for so long. You can get comfortable and think there is no way I can find that special place again.

We asked Diana a few questions about her experience here and this is what she had to say:

What was your first impression of Dark Athletics?

“My first impression was that the gym was small. Not gonna lie, but I LOVED that there was a lot of focus on strength, and that is my favorite part of crossfit. I saw how the coaches used the entire space of the gym and never gave it a second thought!”

What was your first bright spot at the gym?

“After starting with CFDA, I was hitting PR after PR, but the first one that I was really working on for a while break past 100# strict press. For some reason, I had a hard time breaking that PR. Then the following week, I was able to hit 105#!”

What is your next goal that you are working towards?

If everything works out with my eye surgery on Aug 3rd and my eye doctor clears me, I will be working towards my first powerlifting meet at the end of September. I’ve always wanted to give it a try and for the first time, I’ve felt comfortable in a gym that I can give it a shot with that I have the proper coaching! So, we will see what happens!”

If you could message yourself a year ago, what would you say?

“I would tell “Diana” of a year ago not to panic when the day doesn’t go exactly as planned. Learn to go with the flow and pivot because I can always figure out how to make it all work out, even when I don’t think I can, I do!”

Diana has been amazing. She competed in a competition in June with Gina Caplan and was a real leader during the event. Diana was capable of doing the higher level, but Gina wasn’t and Diana stepped up to help her compete in a CrossFit competition for the first time and made the event special for the both of them. They even finished in 3rd place overall! Not bad for a first time for Gina and not bad for the first time working together!

We appreciate the efforts and hard work that Diana brings everyday! She is truly a champion at Dark Athletics! In 6 weeks we will see her crush it on the Powerlifting Stage and learn a different competition circuit!

Everyday is a journey and everyday is a new experience! Let’s enjoy the process and go with the flow because as long as we show up and put in the work we will see progress!

Thank you Diana for being a Champion!
